Roof Replacement in Greater Houston

When repairs stop making sense, a full replacement gives you a clean start: new underlayment, new flashing and a roof built to handle Gulf Coast heat, wind and storms.

Signs it's time to replace, not repair

A roof rarely fails all at once. These are the signs that point to a replacement instead of another patch:

  • Age. Asphalt shingles in the Houston heat usually last 20 to 25 years.
  • Bald spots. Widespread granule loss, or granules piling up in the gutters.
  • Curling or cracking shingles on more than one slope.
  • Repeat leaks in different rooms, or the same leak after several repairs.
  • Soft or sagging spots that point to wet, rotting decking.
  • Storm damage spread across much of the roof.

Not sure which side of the line you're on? A free roof inspection will tell you, and if a repair is all you need, we'll say so.

Choosing your new roof

Most Houston homes go back with asphalt shingles, but a replacement is the best time to consider an upgrade.

MaterialTypical lifeGood fit when
Architectural shingles20 to 30 yearsYou want the best value and the widest choice of colors.
Impact-resistant (Class 4) shingles25 to 30 yearsYour area gets hail. Many Texas insurers offer a discount for them.
Standing seam metal40 to 70 yearsYou plan to stay put and want lower cooling bills.
Clay or concrete tile50+ yearsYou want a Spanish or Mediterranean look and the framing can carry it.

What affects the price

Every roof is priced on its own measurements. The biggest factors are:

  • Size, measured in squares (100 sq ft each)
  • Pitch and height: steep, tall roofs take more time and safety gear
  • Layers of old roofing to tear off
  • Decking that needs replacing
  • Material you choose
  • Details like skylights, chimneys and valleys

The quote builder below takes about two minutes. Send us the basics and we'll follow up with a firm written price after we see the roof.

Was the damage caused by a storm? Hail and wind damage is often covered by homeowners insurance, which can pay for most of a replacement. See hail and storm damage for how the claim process works.

Roof Replacement FAQ

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most single-family homes take one to two days once materials are delivered. Larger homes, steep roofs, metal and tile take longer, and rain can push the schedule back a day.

Can you put new shingles over my old ones?

Sometimes it is allowed, but we recommend a full tear-off. It lets us find and fix bad decking, avoids extra weight on the house, and many shingle manufacturers limit their warranty on roofs laid over old shingles.

Do I need to be home during the replacement?

No. We need access to the driveway and an outdoor outlet. Move cars out of the garage and take down anything fragile hanging on walls, since the work causes some vibration.

What happens if you find rotten decking?

We stop, show you photos of what we found, and talk it through with you before replacing it. Your estimate will explain how decking repairs are handled.

Repair or replace: how do I decide?

If the damage is in one area and the roof is under about 15 years old, a repair usually makes sense. If the roof is older or the problems are widespread, replacement is often cheaper in the long run. Call (940) 594-6828 and we'll give you an honest answer.
